MEET DOC & WYATT! 🐻‍❄️🐻‍❄️ I am now the legal own MEET DOC & WYATT! 🐻‍❄️🐻‍❄️

I am now the legal owner of these two Great Pyrenees brothers. As much as I want to keep them, we already have 6 dogs, so I’m searching for the perfect home for them. Chris and I named them Doc and Wyatt, but they do not know those names yet.

INFO:
• Both males
• About 1 year old
• Not neutered
• Likely littermates
• Extremely human-friendly
• Have not been tested with other dogs yet (not vaccinated)

THEIR STORY:

These boys showed up at our property on Sunday 1/11. Chris walked them off while I had client hikes to start… and they came right back. I made a post in our local Facebook group and people commented that they lived on a loop about a mile away.

We tried loading them into the truck, but they weren’t having it, so I sat in the truck bed with food while Chris slowly drove them over a mile toward what we thought was their street.

What we saw on that road broke my heart… loose cows, tons of loose dogs, and multiple litters of puppies no older than 2 months. It was devastating. With tears in my eyes, we sped off praying the boys would find their home.

After finishing a client hike, I had to head into Austin for an appointment. On my way back, I decided to pass our house and go back to the loop just to check on them — but I didn’t make it past my gate.
The boys were back.

I posted them in the Bastrop Lost & Found Pets Facebook group and they slept in our driveway all night.

The next morning, the owner messaged me saying they were his dogs. I told him they weren’t contained but were still on my property. When we saw them again around 10 AM, I offered to contain them so they wouldn’t get hit by a car.

He said he was on his way… hours later, he finally arrived.

He didn’t get out of the car to greet them, didn’t know their names or even their genders, and the dogs were absolutely terrified and refused to go. My heart dropped, but I didn’t have a choice.

WAY OVERDUE PUPDATE 🐾 Remember the adorable stree WAY OVERDUE PUPDATE 🐾

Remember the adorable street siblings we picked up a week before Thanksgiving?

After the brown male was adopted, one of my amazing clients just couldn’t bear the thought of the black female being without him. Her family came in and took her home. LOLA (formerly Sable) now has two big brothers watching over her, three human siblings who absolutely adore her, and parents who think she’s the greatest thing ever.

A few days later, the brown male had to be returned to me. It was a really sad situation,
tears were cried, but it wasn’t anyone’s fault. As promised, I gladly took him back.

So… we gave in and decided to keep RUSTY. ❤️

The best part is I’ll still get to see Lola every week since her brothers come here, which means Rusty gets to see his sister too. Honestly, this is the best possible outcome…if I’m being a little selfish. 😅

I didn’t think “saving an injured vulture” would b I didn’t think “saving an injured vulture” would be on my 2025 bingo card, but here we are—scratching that one off on the last day of the year.

Chris and I first noticed the injured vulture this past Sunday, so come Monday morning, I started calling the two Bastrop County game wardens, the Parks & Rec department, and every wildlife rescue I could find. Thankfully, after hours on the phone, two people said they could take it… but I had to bring it to them.

By then, the vulture had left the shed where it had been seeking shelter, so I set up a trap outside. Unfortunately, it stayed about 100 feet away, so Chris and I trekked through thick brush to wrangle this thing ourselves. Thank goodness one of my employees was still here—we called her over for backup.

I got slapped in the ass with a cactus, we incurred scrapes and torn clothes, but I would do it all over again.

I called the woman helping me and told her we had the vulture secured, and off to Smithville I went.

We don’t know the fate of this vulture yet, but at least I know it won’t starve or freeze. If the rehabilitators can successfully heal its leg and feel it can care for itself in the wild, they will release it back onto my property. I know its two vulture friends will be happy to be reunited.

Some people might just see an “ugly bird,” but vultures are vital to our ecosystem—literally nicknamed nature’s cleanup crew. Especially out here in the country, where dead animals can spread disease, they serve an incredibly important role. The black-headed vulture is actually a protected species here, so it’s illegal to kill them.

What’s really wild about this story is that I never go into this shed. It’s hard to reach, rotting, gross, and honestly gives me the creeps.

A few months ago, Chris and I were riding the minibike around the property, just putting eyes on things. That’s when I noticed a horseshoe hanging inside the shed, but I wasn’t dressed to go in and grab it. I told Chris we’d come back for it eventually.

Huge shout-out to Sames Ford in Bastrop! The dog b Huge shout-out to Sames Ford in Bastrop! The dog bus broke down on 71 last week, and once I was safely pulled over, I called Sam’s Ford to see if they could take me in. They let me know they work closely with a towing company and immediately gave me all the info I needed.

Within 30 minutes, the tow truck showed up and had the bus checked in with Ford without me even being there. Sam’s Ford understood that this is a work vehicle and that getting it back quickly was crucial. Thanks to their efficiency and communication, the dog bus was back up and running within a week.

Can’t thank them enough for making a stressful situation so much easier!
Rest easy, sweet Elmer. As a senior rescue, we kne Rest easy, sweet Elmer. As a senior rescue, we knew our time together wouldn’t be long enough, but we are beyond grateful for the two beautiful years you were ours. It feels like we had you so much longer, and we’re thankful for every single moment. Even though we always joked about how wild you must’ve been as a young pup, you gave us nothing but love, gentleness, and pure heart.

I’ll never forget calling about Elmer and the person on the phone saying, “Elmer? No one ever calls about Elmer!” Then I spoke with his amazing foster mom, who told me that because I adopted Elmer, she was able to pull another senior cattle dog from the shelter. Oddly enough, that dog was adopted quickly, which allowed Cherie to rescue yet another dog. Elmer didn’t just change our lives—his adoption helped save others, too.

For anyone considering adopting a senior dog, DO IT. Senior dogs are my absolute favorite. Even though you don’t get as much time as you wish you could, the joy, gratitude, and love they give make every moment worth it. All they want is a full belly and a warm human to lean against.

Elmer really set the bar high for senior rescues. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better first senior soul to love.

May you eat endless pizzas and rest easy, sweet boy. ❤️🐾

FMGDL! My girl Leah picked up these two pups yest FMGDL!

My girl Leah picked up these two pups yesterday on her way to my ranch, just a few miles down the road. There was no way we could leave them out there, especially with a rainstorm coming.

The brown one is male, and the black one is female. We gave them a flea and tick bath immediately, as they were completely infested. Miraculously, my mobile vet was able to come out and start their first round of vaccinations. We also started them on dewormer since they have tapeworm — not surprised.

If anyone is interested, please let me know! I already have their next two vet appointments scheduled, and the Doc thinks they are about 8 weeks old. Not sure if they’re bird dogs or more Aussie mixes, but they’re freakin’ adorable either way.

Is this the start of a 501(c)(3)?!?!
We finally did it! 🎉 We officially closed on the We finally did it! 🎉

We officially closed on the 8½ acres next to us — growing our ranch to a total of 17 acres!
We have been working relentlessly to do this and thought it was a goal we would never obtain. We are beyond grateful.

Our toast didn’t quite go as planned, but it made the moment all the more fun. 🤠🥂

For anyone who watched the mini series I made abou For anyone who watched the mini series I made about rescuing one of my dogs, Salty’s Story—I finally did a DNA test!
Today also marks one whole year since Salty showed up on my street. What a wild ride it’s been.

I was convinced he was an Anatolian Shepherd, so I ordered a DNA test. When it came back saying 80% Great Pyrenees, I flat out refused to believe it… so I took another one 😅
Turns out… he’s definitely a Great Pyrenees.

Side note: I tried to get a cute photo for his one-year “spot-ya-day”, but Salty said, “FU, mahm,” so this is what I got 😂
